When Thieves Fall Out
Plus Dack Rambo’s Lemon Supreme recipe
Before this month’s episode, here’s a public service announcement!
More information to come, but for now, pop the date in your diary. Absolutely EVERYONE welcome to join in with the watch parties - first up Crossed Up, an episode where Jessica is bed bound and gets a crossed line on the phone. Later the same evening, a Barbara Stanwyck movie with a similar plot.
Also, congratulations to the winner of the prize draw I organised to celebrate my 20 years of writing about the favourite recipes of film and TV stars.
Sue Peterson, please get in touch with your address for your signed copy of Murder, She Cooked.
A little reminder to one and all - signed copies of all my books are available via my Etsy shop. I LOVE personalising them!
Now on to our usual programming!
If you watch just one episode of Murder, She Wrote this month, why not make it this one? Series 4, episode 2.
I love the fact that J.B. is all dolled up to go to a party at the beginning of this story,
but she can’t resist putting the finishing touches to something at her typewriter. She doesn’t waste a single minute, this remarkable woman!
You’d think it would be tricky to keep a secret from Jessica if you lived in Cabot Cove, but a few residents do manage it. When a stranger turns up in town, she is very friendly until it turns out that he has served 20 years in prison for murder.
Her suspicions are piqued when some townsfolk start acting very suspiciously. There has been a complicated crime cover-up, but of course, J.B. will get to the bottom of it.
I’d love to know what kind of homemade pie Sheriff Tupper is scoffing at Jessica’s place at the end.
Naturally, he has a second piece when offered, saying, “It is mighty good.“ I am guessing apple!
Dack Rambo plays a used-car salesman whose past catches up with him in this episode.
If you are a Brit considering making Dack’s Lemon Supreme, we know Jell-O as jelly. I’ve never seen a box of lemon cake mix or Crisco oil for sale here, but who knows?!
Dack Rambo’s Lemon Supreme
1 box lemon cake mix
Small box of lemon Jell-O
¾ cup of Crisco oil
4 eggs
3 cups powdered/icing sugar
3 lemons, juiced
Preheat oven to 350℉.
Place cake mix, Jell-O, oil, eggs and ¾ cup of water into a mixing bowl and beat with an electric hand mixer for about 4 minutes. Pour the batter into an oblong baking pan, 13x9x2 inches.
Bake for 40 minutes. Blend the icing sugar with the lemon juice. Take the cake out (but leave the oven on) and fork the top of the cake all over good. Pour the icing over and put the cake back in the oven for about 5 or 10 minutes (until the icing has cooked into the cake). Serve while warm, ummmmmmm! GOOD!

Fish Jumper Update
Progress has completely stalled for over two months because of my broken wrist,
but the splint is off! I am following this advice, so it will be slow going at first
The 5-minute rule: Treat your first knitting session as a physical therapy test. Knit for exactly 5 minutes, then stop and wait 24 hours to see if your wrist swells or aches.
I’ll let you know how I get on.

Star-spangled recipe books!
My books are available worldwide via Amazon (switch to your own country for the correct pricing)
or via my Etsy shop - these will come directly from me and can be signed if you wish - mugs, aprons and other goodies are available here too.
PS - no recipes in the Vera book, just poems!

Congratulations! You should throw a CAST party to celebrate your freedom! 😉
It must be a relief to have the cast off! Hopefully you'll be back up to speed with the knitting and cooking before too much longer.
Crisco Oil is vegetable oil, he probably used the soybean one, though they have a canola variety as well.
Is cake mix not a thing in the UK? Or is it just lemon cake mix that's not available?
