Jessica is on jury service.
My goodness, if I was ever accused of a crime and I was innocent, I would definitely want her amongst the twelve good men (and women).
Naturally, J.B. is chosen to be the jury foreman, but not everyone agrees with her wanting to give this case a full going over.
They have businesses to run, people to see, places to go! But things are complicated, so Jessica stands her ground and analyses all the angles. As one jury member so rightly says, “This woman has a brilliant criminal mind!” Indeed, she does!
This is one of those rare Murder, She Wrotes where the show's final shot doesn't have Jessica smiling, giving a thumbs up or generally looking happy. Instead, she gives a murderer the real daggers.
I love it. It's also relatively rare in that there is no eating or drinking in this episode, unlike the next one!
Alan Hale Jr. is best known for the role of The Skipper in the TV show Gilligan's Island. In the 1970s, he owned and operated a popular restaurant called “Alan Hale's Lobster Barrel” in Los Angeles and often greeted guests dressed in character. His sandwich recipe appeared in a Gilligan's Island cookbook, and I loved it. So, it's worth a little effort to make this unusual treat of a sarnie - as we call them here in the UK. Very fancy!
Alan Hale Jr.’s Skipper’s Dream Sandwich
¾ cup sour cream
2 tablespoons onion soup mix
2 tablespoons horseradish cream
Salt and pepper to taste
12 slices thinly sliced roast beef
8 slices thinly sliced French bread
Butter or margarine
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices garlic dill pickles
In a medium bowl mix the sour cream, onion soup mix, horseradish, salt, and pepper together. Lightly toss half of the cream mixture with the thinly sliced beef. Spread the bread with butter or margarine. Lay 3 slices of beef on each of 4 buttered bread slices. Top with a crisp lettuce leaf and a tablespoonful of sour cream dressing, then cover with a second slice of buttered bread. Cut diagonally and place on a plate. Garnish each sandwich with a slice of garlic dill pickle.
Makes 4 sandwiches
