Jessica finds herself in a town full of rednecks who are whooping and hollering and baying for blood when one of their pals is brutally murdered.
This hick town reminds me of the wild, Wild West. It's teeming with bored and boozed-up young men
who look as though they are stuck in the 1950s with their Brylcreemed hair and turned-up collars. There is bare-knuckle fighting in the street,
moonshine drinking
and more than a little racism towards the town sheriff.
It's a rare thing indeed to see J.B. rattled, but she confides, “I find this town, the atmosphere terrifying. It feels as it if is going to explode.”
The local lynch mob is scary indeed, but she keeps her nerve, and in the end, her levelheaded approach to the crime serves her brilliantly, of course.
If you can find some moonshine, drink it from bottles wrapped in brown paper bags while watching. Or why not have a bit of a drive around the block with 30 people in the back of a flat-bed truck
before you settle down to a big old chicken dinner, microwave style!
Craig Stevens' Quick Margarita Chicken
2 tablespoons corn oil
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 teaspoon honey
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
1 cup finely crushed tortilla chips
1 x 14½ oz can of mild salsa
½ cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Cilantro/coriander sprigs
Lime wedges
Mix the first three ingredients together. Brush the chicken breasts with the mixture, then roll in the tortilla chip crumbs to coat. Arrange the chicken in a 9-inch microwave-proof baking dish. Microwave on HIGH for 8 to 10 minutes, rotating several times during cooking. Pour the salsa over the chicken, top with the shredded cheese, and microwave on HIGH another 1 to 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Garnish with cilantro/coriander and lime wedges.
