Gosh, this is a star-studded episode! What a house party!
Cesar Romero plays famous artist Diego Santana
who has summoned friends and family to his remote Mediterranean island sanctuary for a 60th birthday celebration. His friend, the very British Inspector Henry Kyle (played by Ron Moody),
knows Jessica by reputation and has many preconceptions. He tells Diego that he finds most women authors to be cold fish, particularly the mystery writers. But, of course, once he meets J.B., he is utterly charmed, and they team up to try and solve a mysterious murder on the island.
Nobody can leave, so the suspect must be amongst the house guests, very Agatha Christie!
Inspector Kyle is second on my Cabot Cove Dating Agency shortlist for Jessica (after the Leslie Nielsen character in the previous episode). The two of them are pretty flirty at the end of this episode, with the Inspector inviting J.B. to look him up in London on her way home to the States. I could see them together for sure, and I do so wish I had a recipe in my collection from Ron Moody’s kitchen.
Cesar’s soup is simplicity itself, but he’s vague about the quantity of beets, so I would suggest adding the sour cream slowly when blending until the amount seems right to you. You might need less or more than ½ a pint, depending on the amount of beets. Or beetroot, as Inspector Kyle would call them!
Cesar Romero’s Pink Summer Cold Soup
1 jar pickled beets
½ pint sour cream (save a little for garnish)
Parsley
Blend the beets and the sour cream well and cool in refrigerator. When serving, put a dab of sour cream on top and a bit of parsley.
