Happy Heavenly Birthday Dame Angela!
One of my newsletter subscribers, Fiona, asked me what I would propose as a suitable beverage for our October watch parties. Here, my friends, are two options. First up, for our Psycho watch party on Saturday 26th,
a demo of the Hitchcocktail, which I made when Hitchcock’s Rebecca was our movie of the month on my sister Substack Dinner and a Movie. You will get to hear Mr Rathbone’s Alfred Hitchcock impersonation…
The Hitchcocktail
The Hitchcocktail packs a punch, as you would expect from the master of suspense. It featured in a 1952 newspaper column.
Here’s a little something for the Murder, She Wrote watch party the next day.
Watch out if you are not in the GMT timezone as our clocks would have gone back that morning - check with World Time Buddy to see what the time will be where you are… The episode we’ll be watching is Incident in Lot 7, season 8, episode 13. I’ll be emailing again with full details of how the watch parties work soooooooon.
This is the cocktail I created for the Murder, She Cooked book Named after a lipstick that provided Jessica with a crucial clue in the episode Murder by Appointment.
Like the lipstick, it’s not too orangey, not too pink…
there’s a non-alcoholic version too…
Jessica Fletcher’s Tangerine Twist Cocktail
Fizz – champagne, prosecco, cava or crémant
Tangerine, mandarin or orange juice
¼ teaspoon grenadine
Peche de Vigne or apricot brandy
Orange bitters (optional)
Maraschino cherries or a cocktail umbrella to garnish
Jessica Fletcher’s Chained to the Typewriter Mocktail
Alcohol-free sparkling wine or sparkling water
Tangerine, mandarin or orange juice
¼ teaspoon grenadine
Orange bitters (optional)
Maraschino cherries or a cocktail umbrella to garnish
In a champagne flute, pour equal amounts of juice and your choice of sparkling drink, leaving enough space for a shot of booze if you are going down that route. Slowly add the grenadine, it will sink to the bottom of the glass. A few dashes of orange bitters will take the sweetness down a notch. Add ice and decorate with maraschino cherries on a cocktail stick or a cocktail umbrella.
